Dust

Dust explores the remnants of the Cold War through Nadav Kander’s photographs of restricted military zones and devastated landscapes in Kazakhstan and Russia.

The project takes Kander through the secret cities of Priozersk and Kurchatov and the landscapes surrounding the Aral Sea, territories profoundly marked by nuclear testing, military activity and environmental destruction.

Rather than approaching these sites as conventional documentary subjects, Kander transforms abandoned architecture and scarred landscapes into quiet, unsettling images in which beauty and destruction coexist.

Published by Hatje Cantz in 2014, Dust brings together 48 photographs with texts by Nadav Kander and Will Self and a poem by Ted Hughes. Designed by Tappin Gofton, the large-format clothbound volume has become increasingly difficult to find following its publication.

This first-edition copy is preserved in new, unread condition, without its original shrink wrap.
