A Road Divided

A Road Divided marks an important development in Todd Hido’s exploration of the American landscape.

Leaving behind the nocturnal suburban houses for which he first became widely known, Hido turns his attention to lonely roads, peripheral landscapes and places encountered while driving through the outskirts of American cities.

Frequently photographed through the windshield of his car and through veils of rain, mist or ice, these landscapes transform ordinary roads, telephone poles, trees and distant buildings into cinematic and psychologically charged scenes. Their softened surfaces and diffused light bring the photographs close to painting, while retaining the sense of uncertainty and suspended narrative characteristic of Hido’s work.

Published by Nazraeli Press in 2010, A Road Divided was produced in a first edition of 3,000 copies and is now out of print.

This Galerie Chapon copy is exceptionally preserved in new, unopened condition and remains factory sealed in its original plastic wrapping more than fifteen years after publication.
